The simple formula for sampling selection for error-free numerical computation is proposed and its applicability is discussed. The usage of this formula presents practical difficulty for some diffraction problems due to required large memory load. A new multi-Fourier transform PWS (MPWS) method is elaborated which overcomes memory requirement of the PWS method. The performances of the PWS and MPWS methods are verified through extensive numerical simulations. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

NUMERICAL MODELING OF DIFFRACTION THROUGH A BREAKWATER GAP
Wave diffraction is a very important phenomenon in marine engineering and several models have been developed for its simulation. The new version of SWAN, a third generation spectral model, includes an approximation to wave diffraction. The approximation is based on the mild-slope equation for refraction and diffraction, omitting phase information. The objective this paper is to evaluate the per...
متن کاملPlane Wave Diffraction by a Finite Parallel-plate Waveguide with Four-layer Material Loading: Part 1 — the Case of E Polarization
The plane wave diffraction by a finite parallel-plate waveguide with four-layer material loading is rigorously analyzed for the case of E polarization using the Wiener-Hopf technique. Introducing the Fourier transform for the scattered field and applying boundary conditions in the transform domain, the problem is formulated in terms of the simultaneous Wiener-Hopf equations, which are solved vi...
متن کاملTheory of photothermal wave diffraction tomography via spatial Laplace spectral decomposition
Laser-generated thermal wave diffraction theory is presented as a perturbative Born (or Rytav) approximation in a two-dimensional spatial domain for use with tomographic image reconstruction methodologies. The ranges of validity of the pertinent twodimensional spatial-frequencylthermal wavenumber domain complex plane contours are investigated in terms of the existence af inverse spatial Laplace...
متن کاملPLANE WAVE PROPAGATION THROUGH A PLANER SLAB
An approximation technique is considered for computing transmission and reflection coefficients for plane waves propagating through stratified slabs. The propagation of elastic pulse through a planar slab is derived from first principles using straightforward time-dependent method. The paper ends with calculations of enhancement factor for the elastic plane wave and it is shown that it depends ...
متن کاملSeparation and imaging of seismic diffractions using plane-wave decomposition
We use the simulated plane wave section method to separate specular reflections and diffraction events. We show that plane wave sections naturally separate specular and diffracted events and allow us to use plane-wave distruction filters to suppress specular events resulting in plane-wave sections of diffractions. A synthetic example demonstrates the effectiveness of our method in imaging fault...
